Would you start Tweeting about your tax problems?

This is what the UK Government wants you to do, it may seem strange tweeting about something that could be considered a private matter, on a platform which is very public. However, there reasoning for this is to create another avenue for people to contact HMRC, they explain that their phone lines are so busy, by directing people to Twitter they may get a response much quicker, and could avoid a lot of waiting around on the phone to speak to someone.

However, as this article mentions, Twitter is a public domain, and there are going to be people who may share some personal information that should not be put on Twitter. If your queries are extremely general then this may work, but for those with more pressing issues, a phone call will still be the safest place to raise an issue.
